We've been together since March of 2000. None of us had originally planned to form a group (probably the best reason to do so) until while jamming a few times it became apparent we had a certain chemistry... Our past... Maria Spence has been playing around Memphis for the past twenty years. She has performed with several notable bands including The Hombres, R.B. & the Gang, The Big Chill and Streetlife but this is her first band as the featured artist. From rock to ballads to blues, Maria covers all the bases with her driving, soulful singing. Along with her fine vocal and playing skills, she brings to the band her considerable songwriting and arranging talents. Charles Gillihan is a veteran Memphis picker. You've probably heard him hold down the bottom end with two of Memphis' favorites: Bobby Lawson and Shades of Blue and Coon Elder. He played throughout the mid-south with the Desert Wine Band and Redhouse. In his early years, Charles performed with Canyon, Whitewater, The Middleton Jazz Trio and he also enjoyed his time with the Tony Picher Band. Charles is our resident comedian and keeps the band on an even keel, and keeps us in business as our "gigmeister". Mike Crouse has his roots in 60's rock, having started playing in various bands in his native Illinois, most notably The Germs (love those Beatles influenced 60's band names). Moving to Memphis he played in several rock bands in the early 70's, all of which ultimately self-destructed. He then concentrated on building a career at Fedex and raising a family, always keeping his hand in music, and now has come back after all these years to play in our band. Jeff Cordray is a native Memphian who started his musical career in the early 80's. He has played in the bands Code Blue, Voices and Exit Stage Left. His finest achievement til now has been his membership in the Beale Street Society blues band Street Life, which won the Society's blues contest award in 1992 and went on to compete in a national blues contest held at the New Daisy in Memphis. Jeff is also versatile in other musical styles and likes to chase the numerous wild women who follow the group... |
